Maybe you can’t confidently say that you found your purpose, but I can guarantee that you have seen a glimpse of it. I believe that we start off knowing our purpose and through conditioning as we age, we forget. When we realize that life is about bringing value and serving others, we tend to feel lost not knowing our purpose. I believe that it’s completely feasible to figure it out with these 4 habits. It’s important to note that this is a journey.

Try everything, discount nothing

If you see something new and interesting, just try it and see how it goes. Life is trial and error. The more errors you have, the more lessons you learn. Only discount harmful behaviors and experiences.

Create habits that invite inspiration

You might ask the question, “what if I don’t feel inspired?” Movies have made it seem as though inspiration is some grand event in which time stops. Soon after, the light bulb appears and viola an idea appears. The truth is that for most people, inspiration comes as they do the work. If you never start, you do not create an opportunity to be inspired. In fact, I have noticed that inspiration comes in trickles. One day you solve one problem, the next it’s something else. When you look back after a period of time, you realize it’s a whole masterpiece. Instead of waiting for some magical epiphany, start with what you know and build upon it.

Take action immediately

Harry S. Truman once said, “Imperfect action is better than perfect inaction.” Most of us like to wait until we feel ready, or we know everything. This slows down progress. It also deprives us of learning important lessons along the way had we started when we weren’t ready. Taking action immediately creates the habit of being a go-getter. If you train yourself to act as soon as you hear something that is interesting to you, you will soon learn the art of recognizing opportunities.

Trust that you know the answers or can find them

It’s important to build self-trust and confidence in your ability to figure it out. Earlier, I mentioned that we are born knowing who we are and what we can add to the world. Most of the time purpose is something you can find within yourself. Think back to when you were young. What were you naturally drawn to? Now that you are grown, what skills do you have? What do you enjoy doing? What do friends ask you help with? What makes you cry? When you trust in your ability to find the answers, you will take action. It might include researching, consulting a current expert, or even following a formal program that teaches you the skills you need.

Questions of the day:

  • What excuse am I making for not starting?
  • What’s one thing I can do today to start taking action?
